I am thrilled by the success story of Mrs. Ngobesing Emilia Siri. She is
an agronomist with a passion for agriculture. She returned to
University after having her last child and has been rewarded with a
degree in agronomy, an area many people think is reserved for men. She
believes her country is doing a good thing by intensifying investment in
Agriculture; that more food needs to be produced for everybody. With
more than 90% of the world going hungry, this is vital. More is being
done in her country at the moment than in past years to ensure that more
food is produced; but that should not be all. She holds that what is
produced should be made to reach everybody. What obtains now is the
little that is produced ends with the rich leaving the poor hungry and
desperate. We must never forget that a hungry man is an angry man; and
that a mouth that is full does not talk. Under the distinguished
supervision of Dr. Oben of the University of Dschang, this determined
and highly motivated lady has done research on rice cultivation in Lower
Bafut and believes that the revival of rice farming in this region will
not only enhance the quality of life for the local inhabitants but will
be a big boost to rice production in Cameroon.
